With the game now making its way to full release, it's unclear how long ROCKFISH Games is planning to support Everspace 2 post-launch. Because of this, ROCKFISH Games was able to create a much larger game, which justifies the higher final price. The developer attributes the increase to Xbox Game Pass, which allowed Everspace 2 to receive an expanded development budget. The developer has confirmed that there will be no sale of the game before this date, so this will be the final opportunity to get Everspace 2 at a lower price, at least for a while. As the game resembles a more complete product, ROCKFISH Games is increasing the price of the title from $39.99, to $49.99 on February 20. The full release of Everspace 2 isn't all good news for players. The announcement also confirmed plans for console releases, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions tentatively planned for release sometime in Summer 2023, with the game simply too demanding for last-gen consoles to handle. According to ROCKFISH Games, the initial Early Access launch of Everspace 2 surpassed their wildest expectations. The game's initial Early Access release came in January 2021, and has been followed by two years of consistent updates. The release date trailer doubles as a story trailer, giving prospective players a hint of what they can expect when Everspace 2 leaves Early Access on April 6. It's easy for many titles to end up in Early Access limbo, so every game that fully releases can be seen as a success. ROCKFISH Games did Early Access right, providing detailed roadmaps for Everspace 2 throughout its development.
The program has proven successful for many other games, with Ark: Survival Evolved, DayZ, and Kerbal Space Program being some of the most notable graduates.
